The security forces have killed a dozen militants in three separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir till Saturday.
Eight terrorists were killed while they were trying to infiltrate into India from the north Kashmir Keran sector of the Line of Control over a four-day-long encounter that got over on Saturday.
"Till yesterday (Friday), we had killed three militants and this morning five more were eliminated taking the toll to eight in past four days," Brigadier Gurmeet Singh, BGS 15 Corps, told rediff.com.
He said the area where the operation was still on is under a blanket of eight to 10 feet of snow.
While Inspector general of police Jammu range Ashok Gupta said two top militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit were killed in a fierce encounter in the Kishtwar area of Jammu region on Saturday.
He said two more militants were killed in another gunfight in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district the same day.
Gupta said Saturday's operations were carried out jointly by the army and the police.
