The Jammu and Kashmir police is likely to question the paramilitary Border Security Gorce Commanding Officer R K Birdi on Monday following revelation by the arrested BSF trooper that in opening fire on the 17-year old Zahid Farooq Sheikh, he had only followed the orders of his CO.
The commanding officer of the 68 battalion has already been suspended and attached with the Srinagar headquarters of the BSF.
"We will question him tomorrow to carry forward the ongoing investigation process," a police officer in Srinagar said.
The investigation process has acquired a new dimension after the arrested trooper Lakhwinder Kumar told the police that 'it was the CO who ordered him to open fire at Zahid while the three vehicle convoys were returning from Nishat to its unit in Gulmarg.'
The police have already questioned the 15 BSF troopers who were part of the convoy and seized their service weapons.
The BSF has also ordered a court of enquiry to be conducted by the BSF inspector general Tripura, Ramesh Sehgal, following the revelation made by Kumar to the police.
The 15 troops who were part of the convoy have also been attached to Srinagar to be available for questioning by the police.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is visiting winter capital of Jammu on Wednesday to chair the meeting of the unified headquarters.
He is likely to discuss the new surrender policy for those militants willing to return to Kashmir from Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will brief Chidambaram about the latest Kashmir situation and the progress in the investigation of the Zahid's killing.
