J&K: 7 killed, 39 wounded in major bus mishap

At least seven persons were killed and 39 others wounded in a road accident in the hilly Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

A senior government officer said that a bus carrying passengers rolled down from the main road into the fast flowing Chenab river near Prem Nagar on the Jammu Kishtwar highway late on Wednesday afternoon.

"Six passengers were killed on the spot while 39 others who were injured in the accident were shifted to various hospitals for treatment," Pawan Kotwal, divisional commissioner Jammu, told rediff.com.

He said one injured passenger succumbed to injuries in the hospital in winter capital Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed shock and grief over the accident.

Omar directed the concerned district administration to rush to the spot and speed up rescue and relief operations. He also directed for immediate medicare for the injured persons of the accident.
