At least 25 passengers are feared dead in a tragic road accident in the hilly Kishtwar district of Jammu region, according to a senior state government officer.

He said the ill-fated bus was on way to Kishtwar from Thathri in Doda district on Friday evening when the driver lost the control and it fell into the fast flowing Chenab river.

"The bus has been washed away due to the strong currents in the river which is in full fury these days," Kishtwar district magistrate G R Bhagat told rediff.com.

He
said divers have reached the spot, but the rescue operation had to be halted as night fell, and it will be resumed early on Saturday.

Bhagat said two persons escaped miraculously with minor injuries as they jumped from the bus while it was rolling down.
