Four Lashker-e-Tayiba militants were killed in a fierce gun battle between a group of ultras and the security forces in a forest area in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
Acting on intelligence inputs that a group of militants are hiding in Baji Mahal forest in Dharamsal, about 146 kms from Jammu, policemen led by Additional SP of Nowshera R K Bhat launched a cordon and search operation with the assistance of 60, 63 Rashtriya Rifles and 8 Maha Regiment personnel early in the morning, they said.
The operation party was tracking the group of seven to eight militants who had infiltrated into this side and taken shelter in the area when the ultras fired on them and hurled grenades.
The troops fired back resulting in a fierce gun battle in which two LeT militants were killed, they said adding, the operation was still on when the last reports came in from the area.
Another encounter took place between security forces and militants in Dool area of Kishtwar district this morning, the officials said. In the encounter, two LeT militants identified as Nisar and Rehmatullah were killed, they said adding, one AK rifle, one pistol and ammunition and explosives were recovered from the site of the gun battle
