Two militants, a Junior Commissioned Officer and a cop were killed in a night-long gun battle in the Kupwara district.

A senior police officer said four cops and a woman were injured in the encounter which began after security forces surrounded a house in the Zunreshi village near Chowkibal in Kupwara district on Monday evening on specific information about presence of a group of militants inside it.

As the security forces challenged the holed up militants, they opened fire, triggering a gunfight in which two militants were killed so far.

“One JCO and a cop were also killed during the encounter while four policemen and a woman were injured. They were evacuated to hospital for treatment,” the officer said. Police sources said a head constable of the special operations group was missing in the ongoing operation.

Meanwhile unidentified militants shot at and critically injured a cop in south Kashmir Anantnag town on Tuesday morning.

The police said militants fired from a close range at the cop and later fled. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment.
