Jawan injured as Pak violates ceasefire in Poonch

Pakistani troops on Saturday violated the ceasefire by firing on a forward post along the Line of Control in Poonch district, leaving an army jawan injured.

“There was firing on forward area in Krishnagati-Mendhar sector along the LoC by Pakistani troops in which an army man was injured this morning,” Inspector General of Police (Rajouri-Poonch range) Johny Williams said.

However, Defence PRO Col Manish Mehta said there was no ceasefire violation.

The ceasefire violation took place after two days of lull.

A senior Army officer had said on Friday that there have been over 25 ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after surgical strikes by Indian Army in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to dismantle terror launching pads.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assessed security arrangements on the border in Barmer district of Rajasthan.

Singh along with Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju arrived at Barmer from Jaisalmer on Saturday, accompanied by Border Security Force officials, sources said.

The home minister on Friday chaired a meeting in Jaisalmer with the home ministers and senior officials of four states that border Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal, Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Brij Raj Sharma.
