Jacintha Saldanha's funeral on Sunday

December 15, 2012 12:54 IST

The funeral of Jacintha Saldanha, the Indian-origin nurse who committed suicide after a hoax call to her hospital treating Princess Kate, will be held at Shirva in Udupi, Karnataka, on December 16.

The body will be flown into Mangalore on Sunday morning and the funeral will be held the same day, according to family members.

The family is making all arrangements for the funeral.

The family members may be convinced that it is a case of suicide as even the autopsy revealed the same. However, they now want a thorough inquiry into the events that led to her death.

Her letters indicate that she was unhappy with the hospital authorities and this is something that needs to be looked into.

It would give the family closure if a proper probe is conducted, the family says.

Family members say that they would have the funeral and a memorial service on Sunday.

There are many who want to come and pay their last respects.

Her husband and two children would be present. We are requesting everyone to cooperate with them and not torment them with too many questions. The past couple of days have been traumatic for them and give them time to grieve the loss of their beloved, Irene D'souza, Jacintha's sister-in-law said when contacted.

The family, however, adds that a decision on an independent probe in India would depend on what her husband and children would have to say.

Saldanha had allegedly committed suicide after being duped by a prank call to a UK hospital treating a pregnant Princess Kate. Unable to bear the humiliation and stress she committed suicide. She left behind three suicide notes, which are now being probed by the Scotland Yard police. Her autopsy revealed that there was no foul play involved.
