Hope for commerce students in Mumbai

The University of Mumbai will start two new undergraduate courses this academic year -- a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounts and Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Insurance.

Fifty-two colleges are expected to conduct these courses. Each college will admit 60 students for one course.

This will be heartening news for nearly 9,000 commerce students unable to get into degree courses despite passing the Higher Secondary Certificate examination this year.

University sources told Mid-Day that permission is being granted to all colleges who have applied for the new courses to meet the demand from commerce students.
