I have been a freelancer of Cong for 10 years: Lalu

June 09, 2009 22:01 IST
Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad was at his humorous best in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday when he said he was a "freelancer" for Congress for ten years. Prasad, who fought the polls as part of the Fourth Front, said it was not because of Congress but for the people's support that he was sitting here with only four members.

"I have been a freelancer of Congress before this for 10 years," he said. An anguished Prasad also said he had protested to Gandhi as he had felt "insulted" by certain Congress leaders after the election results.

"Jab matlab nikal gaya to pehchante nahin (when your purpose is served, you forget me)" was the line from a Bollywood song which Prasad recited, looking towards the treasury bench where Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were sitting.

He, however, made it clear that he had no complaints against Gandhi or the Prime Minister as they were "good and sincere people."

"And this is not TTM," he said provoking the entire House into a bout of laughter. Prasad had earlier elaborated what TTM meant. He said it was an abbreviation for 'Tabad Tod Tel Maalish' or full-fledged sycophancy. "Those who indulge in TTM have no class. They are present in all parties and leaders should be aware of them," he said.
