The income tax department has repatriated Sunita Kejriwal, senior Indian Revenue Service officer and wife of Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal who was recently in the midst of a row with the government over pending service dues.

A recent order by the Central Board of Direct Taxes has brought Sunita back to the income tax fold and the apex body of the I-T department has now posted her as officer on special duty in Delhi region under the chief commissioner of I-T.

Sunita holds the rank of additional commissioner of income tax and was on deputation to the serious frauds investigation office under the corporate affairs ministry.

According to I-T sources, Sunita was called back after her stipulated stint on deputation had ended and no extension on the SFIO post was extended to her as the I-T department is itself short of officers. She reported back to her I-T cadre on November 1 along with a few other officers who were serving on deputation.

Arvind Kejriwal had recently returned over Rs 9 lakh in dues to settle the issue of his resignation from the Indian Revenue Service earlier.

Kejriwal had sent a cheque of Rs 9,27,787 along with a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after government has said that he had violated bond rules by quitting the income tax service before completing three years of service after going on a study leave on full pay. However, Kejriwal said he took non-paid leave and quit the service after serving bond conditions.
