IPS officer claims Mulayam threatened him, cops refuse to file FIR

Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station on Saturday refused to register an FIR by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who was allegedly threatened by Samajwadi Party supremo and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Thakur, who is posted as IG (Civil Defence) in Lucknow, said, “The cops on duty at the police station initially refused to even receive my written complaint, but when I insisted I wouldn’t leave without them taking it down, they gave me a receipt.”

The police informed him that any further action on the complaint will depend on a preliminary enquiry.  

Apprehensive that the police would not act on his complaint, Thakur has decided to meet the state Governor Ram Naik. “I am also moving a representation to the Union home ministry in this regard,” Thakur said.

According to an audio clip released by the IPS officer on Friday evening, Mulayam has issued a blatant threat against Thakur, warning him of mending his ways or face consequences.

Thakur is widely known for running a crusade against Uttar Pradesh mining minister Gayatri Prajapati, who is notorious for patronising the mining mafia that is allegedly a funding source for the Samajwadi Party.

Prajapati’s proximity to Mulayam is well-known and the former CM had earlier even chastised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for questioning the minister about his “shady” activities. 

Thakur, who has been highlighting Prajapati’s alleged misdeeds, had even lodged an FIR against him for implicating the IPS officer in a false case.
