Kunal Kamran, an Indian-American community leader who participated in Geeta Asharam movement, died of cancer last week at his home in Lauderdale. He was 61.
Kamran, who was born in Multan, Pakistan, came to the US in 1966 to pursue graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, said his son, Sujan Kamran, of Austin, Texas.
A mechanical engineer by trade, Kunal Kamran was president of Total Quality Productivity Services of St Paul, a company he founded in the late 1980s to work with other companies on training, organizational and quality issues.
Kamran's proudest pursuit was his service to the Geeta Ashram movement, the Minneapolis Star Tribune quoted his son saying.
Founded by Indian independence activist Swami Hari Har Ji Maharaj in 1947, the movement is rooted in ancient tradition and the Bhagavad Gita, and it encourages a spiritual approach to all aspects of life.
