India's allegations show its dual attitude: Pak

July 01, 2010 12:17 IST

Pakistan has denied allegations leveled by Indian Army Chief General VK Singh about the existence of terrorist training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit termed General Singh's remarks as 'baseless and self-serving'.

'Terrorism is a global and regional issue. Pakistan's own concerns vis-a-vis India in this regard have been amply conveyed,' The Daily Times quoted Basit, as saying.

'Both sides have agreed to discuss the issue of terrorism and to address this matter in a cooperative and pragmatic manner,' he added.

Meanwhile, another Foreign Office official said that the remarks showed that there were 'differences' between the Indian political and military leaderships.

'The recent statement of the Indian army chief has compelled us to think about the dual Indian attitude. We cannot rule out the possibility that differences have surfaced between the civilian and military leadership of India over dialogue with Pakistan," the official said.

Earlier, General Singh had said that over 40 terrorist camps were operational in PoK.

He had also said that the Pakistan Army remained steadfast about its 'Kashmir agenda' and was resorting to giving covering or distracting fire to help militants sneak into India across the Line of Control.
