An indefinite curfew was imposed in Srinagar and other towns on Thursday evening to scuttle Friday's proposed separatist march to Eidgah grounds in the city.
Police vehicles fitted with loudspeakers made rounds asking residents to stay indoors as an indefinite curfew had been imposed throughout the city.
The hardline separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked people to march to the Eidgah grounds on Friday for a rally against the killings of eleven youths in Kashmir valley in past two weeks in security force firing.
Reports from other towns also said similar announcements had been made there as well.
The police and the paramilitary and the central reserve police force troopers have fanned across the city and in other towns to enforce the curfew.
