I'll throw Karuna's legal notice in dustbin: Swamy

Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy on Monday ridiculed the legal notice sent to him by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Kaurnanidhi that he (Swamy) should be ready to face legal action if he failed to withdraw his allegation that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief was also involved in the 2G Spectrum scam alongwith arrested former minister A Raja.

"I have not received the legal notice so far. I have only read about in newspapers and mediapersons are more worried about it than me. Let his legal notice reach me and I would throw it in the dustbin," Dr Swamy told rediff.com.

Swamy had submitted before a Delhi court that his private complaint seeking prosecution of A Raja in connection with the scam should be maintained despite the Central Bureau of Investigation probe, as his case covered wider issues including 'involvement of CM of Tamil Nadu.'

"You are hereby called upon to forthwith issue a public retraction of the above statement within 24 hours, failing which our client will be constrained to institute appropriate civil and/or criminal proceedings against you for defamation of character," the notice, which was issued by Raman and Associates on behalf of Karunanidhi, stated.

The legal firm claimed that Dr Swamy's statements were defamatory in nature and had been made to settle personal scores and personal malice towards the Tamil Nadu strongman.

"It seems Karunanidhi does not know the law," Dr Swamy reacted.

Swamy said his 'remarks constituted a privileged statement made in court and repeated to the media. There is no question of initiating legal action against the statement.'

Meanwhile, Swamy on Monday met Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and presented a petition seeking sanction to prosecute CM Karunanidhi for his alleged involvement in a plot allotment case.
