India's high commissioner to Bangladesh Veena Sikri has sought premature retirement, upset over envoy Shiv Shankar Menon, who is two years junior to her, being appointed as the foreign secretary.

Sikri, a 1970-batch IFS officer, put in her papers yesterday, sources told PTI. Veena Sikri's husband Rajiv
Sikri, also a 1970-batch officer, has already quit because of Menon's appointment.

She has been camping in New Delhi ever since Menon, a 1972-batch officer, was appointed as the foreign secretary on
August 31.

Menon, currently high commissioner to Pakistan, superseded 15 officers for the post.

Another senior officer T C A Rangachary, India's envoy to France, is also believed to have expressed his
disappointment over being superseded.
