Two intrepid pilots from the Indian Air Force will have their eyes set on entering the record books when they attempt to fly around the world in less than 81 days in a Microlight glider.

Wing Commander Rahul Monga and Squadron Leader S K Yadav hope to start their 40,000 km odyssey, flying a Super Dimona Motorised glider, on May one and fly six to seven hours daily in daylight to better the world record held by Metrez Lenaric from Slovenia.

Though 121 people have done it on a single engine plane worldwide, the IAF duo would be the first Indians to attempt to fly around the world in this class of aircraft.

Monga told newsmen that they would start their adventure from the capital, flying eastward over Myanmar, China, Russia, Alaska, Iceland, the European mainland and then back to India via the Middle East.

Monga said the most difficult stretches they hoped to come across will be the icy wastelands of Siberia, Iceland and Greenland.
