The All Party Hurriyat Conference will hold meetings with the Central government in Srinagar shortly to decide on the kind of mechanism that should be adopted to ensure forward movement on dialogue between the two sides.

APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq disclosed this after almost two hours of meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"We would work out the mechanism and revert back to Home Minister Shivraj Patil as soon as possible," he said, however, refusing to specify as to what would constitute the mechanism.

Dr Singh's media advisor Sanjaya Baru said that the prime minister was very happy with the meeting and described it as meeting of the minds that augured well for the people of Kashmir as well as the people of India.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and interlocutor N N Vohra attended the meeting from the government side. The Hurriyat delegation comprised of Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Professor Abdul Gani Bhatt, Moluvi Abbas Ansari (both former chairmen), Bilal Lone, Fazal Haq Qureshi and Aga Syed.

"APHC met Dr Singh and held a free and frank discussion on all aspects relating to Jammu and Kashmir, and agreed to work together to find a peaceful, honourable and lasting solution to the Jammu and Kashmir problem," Mirwaiz said.

He described the meeting with the prime minister as a forward movement in the right direction. He was evasive when asked if he would attend the round table conference called by Dr Singh to be held in Srinagar later this month. "We would meet and discuss the issue," he said.

Mirwaiz emphasised that Hurriyat constituted the third party to the ongoing peace talks between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Hurriyat leaders raised the issues of release of political prisoners, human rights and other issues during their meeting with Dr Singh. This was the second meeting between APHC and prime minister in last seven months.

He said that Hurriyat conference had no objection if Dr Singh held talks with other political parties in Jammu and Kashmir who have often been dubbed by Mirwaiz as a 'crowd'.
