Over a dozen PIO in Queen's Honours list

Over a dozen people of Indian origin, including Dr Khalid Hameed, chairman, Commonwealth Youth Exchange Circle, figure in the New Year Honours list of Queen Elizabeth II.
 
The new British Ambassador to India Michael Anthony Arthur has been chosen for a senior honour in the list.

Arthur, who recently took over from Sir Rob Young in New Delhi, will be conferred with the Order of the Knight Commander of St Michael and St George.

Prince Karim Aga Khan IV has been chosen for the Knight Bachelor of the British Empire honour.

Prominent non-resident Indians in the honours list include Mel Sim Lal, for services to equal opportunities; Prof Monder Ram, Prof of Small Business, De Montfort University, Leicester, for service to black and ethnic minority businesses; and Ranjit Singh, for services to race and community relations. All of them will receive the Order of the British Empire.

The Member of the Order of British Empire honour will go to Amratlal Ghelabhai Desai for services to community relations in North London; Amarjit Singh Dhillon for service to the Asian community in South East London; Manilal Iccharam Mistry for services to race relations in the North West; Amrita Singh, senior probation officer, London Probation Area, for services to the National Probation Service and Chaudhry Asif Yaqub for promoting exports.

Other people of Indian origin to receive MBE are Subathira Arunachalam, lately compliance support officer, Inland Revenue; Anjali Dey, New deal personal adviser, Jobcentre Plus, Dept for Work and Pensions; and Heeranand Lachiram Kirpalani and Jayantilal Sojar Gosar Shah, both from the Ministry of Defence.

Capt Amarjit Singh Gill of Berkshire Army Cadet Force gets an MBE for his services to the military.

Nihal Vijaya Devadas Kaviratne, chairman, Unilever Indonesia, has been made a Commander of the Order of British
Empire in recognition of his services to UK business interests and to sustainable development in Indonesia.

England's entire 31-member rugby World Cup winning squad will also be honoured.

While rugby dominates the list, there are honours for many show business stars, including guitarist Eric Clapton
and Ray Davies, the former lead singer of the Kinks. They will get CBEs.
