High-level meet in Delhi to lay out Telangana road map

Amid protests in Hyderabad, a high-level meeting is likely to be convened in New Delhi to lay out a road map for the formation of Telangana.

Even as the protestors refused to budge from the Necklace Road in Hyderabad until there was an announcement, senior Congress leaders Vayalar Ravi and Ghulam Nabi Azad apprised Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde of the situation.

Shinde, who is talking to the two leaders in charge of Andhra Pradesh, in turn will brief the Congress high command following which a decision will be taken. The protestors, on the other hand, have been demanding that an announcement be made on Sunday night itself, but that appears to be unlikely.

The crowd has not moved from the Necklace Road and the police are making desperate efforts to disperse the mob. After trying to use force to disperse the mob, the police are now trying to pacify the protestors.

Although the Union government is worried about the situation, a decision in this regard cannot be expected on Sunday.

Sources say that the government may not make announcement for the formation of the state, but will chalk out a road map to facilitate this process.

The process could commence from Tuesday onwards depending on the intensity of the protest, sources also point out.

Meanwhile, the bigger worry for the local administration is the United Nations bio diversity conference to be held in Hyderabad on Monday.

The protestors have not threatened to disrupt the event which is being held for 19 days. Moreover the event is taking place at a venue which is not close to the Necklace Road where there are 1.5 lakh protestors.
