High-level defence delegation visits LoC

Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma on Monday visited the Tangdhar sector of the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Sharma, who arrived in Srinagar on a three day visit on Sunday, was accompanied during the LoC visit by Lt Gen A S Lamba, vice chief of army staff, Subhash Chandra, joint secretary, ministry of defence and senior army officers.

A defence spokesman in Srinagar said the 'high level delegation was briefed by the Brigade Commander on the current situation on the Line of Control, infiltration and ceasefire violation by Pakistan army.'

"The delegation was given a demonstration of the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System and various equipments deployed to foil infiltration bids. A display of sophisticated equipment and war like stores captured/recovered from militants was also done for the visiting delegation. The delegation later interacted with the officers, JCOs and soldiers deployed in the area," the spokesman said.

During the two-day visit, the high level delegation from Delhi was briefed by the army commander Northern Command, Lt Gen K T Parnaik and the Corps Commander Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Ata Hasnain on the security environment in Jammu and Kashmir.

The high level delegation was given a detail brief on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the recent ceasefire violation by Pakistan by headquarter Northern Command and Lieutenant General S. A. Hasnain, general officer Commanding, Chinar Corps after its arrival here yesterday.

The delegation called on the governor and the chief minister at their residences and interacted on various security related issues.
