Heavy, continuous rains for the past two days have dampened the spirits of Mumbaikars, as they had to contend with waterlogged roads and heavy traffic. Photograph: @People0fEarth/Twitter

The heavy rains also caused severe traffic snarls at Western Express Highway, Juhu Circle and other parts of Malad and Kandivli. Photograph: PTI photo

There was also severe waterlogging in low-lying areas such as Hindmata and Parel, causing cars to stall. Photograph: Arun Patil

There were also 15 instances of tree collapses reported across the city. Some of the areas where trees had collapsed were Kandvili, Gowalia Tank in Gamdevi, Prince Colony in Mulund, near Jaslok Hospital, LBS Marg, Chikuwadi in Borivli and Tardeo. Photograph: Arun Patil

The heavy rains on Sunday also cast a damper on festivities in the city, with most people opting to stay at home rather than brave the incessant downpour. Photograph: Shailesh Andrade/Reuters
