A High Court bench in Nagpur has dismissed a criminal case against Devisingh Shekhawat, husband of President Pratibha Patil, relating to abetment of suicide by a school teacher.

A single judge bench of Justice Arun Choudhary, while allowing application of Devisingh Shekhawat and three others under section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code has quashed the judgment passed by Additional Sessions Judge, Khamgaon in Buldana district on February 7, 2007.

The Khamgaon court had dismissed their criminal revision and confirmed issuance of process against them on July 22, 2005 by a trial court in Jalgaon Jamod.

The high court has also dismissed a criminal case pending against the three, including Shekhawat, at Jalgaon Jamod court.

Mangala, widow of deceased Vijay Dhage, who was employed as teacher in a school run by Shekhawat's Vidya Bharti Shikshan Mandal in Amravati district, had filed a case against Shekhawat and three others for allegedly instigating Dhage to commit suicide on November 15, 1998.

Mangala had filed a complaint against Shekhawat and three others before a court in Jalgaon Jamod, where she lived.
