The Bombay high court on Thursday restrained the cable TV operators and internet service providers from airing or circulating pirated copies of the film Udta Punjab.
The order was given by Justice Gautam Patel on a petition filed by co-producers of the film Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd.
The producers of the film, which got into trouble with the CBFC for its depiction of the problem of drug abuse in Punjab but eventually got clearance from the Bombay high court, had lodged a complaint with cyber police here yesterday alleging that the film had been leaked online.
The Abhishek Chaubey-directed film is set to be released on Friday.
The petitioners attached a list of sites on the internet where the film is available for illegal download. While restraining the cable operators from airing the film illegally, Jusice Patel said these links also must be removed and rendered inaccessible immediately.
The matter would be heard further in July.
