High Court blast not intended to kill: Delhi police

The Delhi police on Thursday said the explosion outside the Delhi high court was not aimed at causing any major harm and the motive behind the incident was being probed.

Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta, who handed over a preliminary investigation report to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, said the bomb was not aimed at causing major damage.

The police chief said that they were awaiting the central forensic science laboratory report but confirmed that it was a low intensity blast. "It was a mild blast and that is why even the car under which it was placed was not badly damaged," Gupta said. "The best investigators from the special branch and crime branch are conducting the inquiry."

Gupta said it was too early to say anything about the motive of planting the bomb, as there was no possibility of it having caused any fatality.

A crude bomb on Wednesday triggered a low intensity explosion outside the Delhi high court in the heart of the capital, creating a security scare. There was no damage to any property or injury to anyone in the blast that took place in a service lane near the court.
