Hazarika to be cremated on the banks of Brahmaputra

All throughout his life, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the cultural icon, composed many timeless songs describing the might, vigour, and importance of the Brahmaputra river.

After his demise he will lie on the bank of this revered river that dictates the course of life in Assam.

The mortal remains of Dr Hazarika will be consigned to flames on the bank of the River Brahmaputra on Tuesday in the heart of the Guwahati city. It will be in tune with his wish that he should be laid to rest on the bank of Brahmaputra.

Assam government on Sunday announced that the last rites of the legendary singer would be performed at Sankardev Park on the bank of Brahmaputra River.

Dr Hazarika's son Tez Hazarika will reach Guwahati from the US on Tuesday morning to perform the last rites of his father.

Dr Hazarika's body would be flown to Guwahati on Monday at around 1 pm and will be received by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Governor J B Patnaik.

The body will be kept at the historic Judges' Field in the city till Tuesday to facilitate people of Assam to pay their tribute to the singer of the masses.
