"Chandigarh is ours. They (Haryana) have no right over it," Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said on Wednesday.

The Union Territory belonged to Punjab and Haryana's demand for a separate High Court for the state at Chandigarh was not justified, he told reporters.

On former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma's remarks that the prime minister should be an elected member of the Lower House, Badal said "this needs consensus among all parties".

Asked to comment on recent utterances of saffron outfit Shiv Sena and its breakaway group MNS, the SAD patriarch said "everyone has a right to settle anywhere in the country."

Referring to the UK authorities temporarily suspending acceptance of student visa applications from North India, the chief minister said the state would request the Centre to take up the matter with the British government.
