Hamid Mir to get SAARC Lifetime Achievement Award 2010

Foundation of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Writers and Literature have nominated Pakistani journalist and columnist of rediff.com Hamid Mir for the SAARC Lifetime Achievement Award 2010. Mir works for Geo TV in Islamabad.

Secretary General of SAARC Sheel Kant Sharma will give lifetime achievement award to Hamid Mir on March 26 in Delhi in recognition of his services for democracy, media freedom, human rights and regional peace.

The award ceremony will be part of a three-day SAARC Festival which will be inaugurated by Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao. Writers, poets, human rights activists and parliamentarians including Gulzar, Sarmad Sehbai and Mahasweta Devi will speak on the need of joint efforts for the safety of environment and water resources.
 
Chairperson, Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature, Ajeet Cour will also give Saarc Literary Awards to Abhi Subedi (Nepal) and Mark Tully (India).

Saarc Environment Awards will be given to Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, K K Mohammad and Baba Sewa Singh. Saarc young poet award will be given to Bangladeshi poet Rubana Huq.
