Ganga Sagar, a metal pitcher used by tenth Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh, was flown in to New Delhi from London by Pakistani member of Parliament Rai Aziz Ulah Khan.
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjeet Singh Chatwal, MPs from Punjab and members of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee received it.
The SGPC then took the pitcher, also called as lota [bowl], to Amritsar in a special chartered flight.
Ganga Sagar has great historical importance for Sikhs, as the tenth guru is believed to have drunk milk from the bowl in 1705, SGPC member Kuldip Singh Bhogal said.
In Amritsar, the Ganga Sagar will be taken in a procession from the airport to the Golden Temple, he said.
The pitcher is in the custody of Khan. It is believed that the guru gave the bowl to Khan's ancestors. Bhogal said the SGPC will discuss with Khan the possibility of the bowl being permanently in Amritsar.
The bowl was last in India during the third centenary of Khalsa, he added.
