Two persons, accused of being involved in the Godhra incident, have been released on bail for want of evidence by a local court in Godhra, sources said.

The accused, Gulam Nabi Dingoo and Ali Mohammed, alleged accomplices of the main accused Nanu Miyan alias Nikki Chaudhary, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, were released on December 9.

The duo was allegedly involved in smuggling of narcotics also. Miyan, a dismissed Central Reserve Police Force constable had established contacts

with them while he was posted in Jammu and Kashmir.

The police had submitted a report to the court saying there was no evidence against the two. But if in the course of investigations their involvement is established, legal action will be taken against them.

Meanwhile, the police have stepped up operations to find disqualified Godhra civic body councilor Farukh Bhana and Salim Panwala, who have been absconding since the February 27 incident.
