Army was withdrawn from Vadodara on Tuesday after recent tension in the city gave way to peace.
Talking to UNI, police commissioner Deepak Swaroop said the decision to withdraw Army was taken after reviewing the law and order situation at a high level meeting in Vadodara.
With the city recording no incident of violence during nine hours of curfew relaxation granted from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday, the authorities have further extended the relaxation hours from 8 am to 6 pm on Tuesday in six curfew-bound police station areas of Navapura, Raopura, Karelibaug, City, Wadi and Panigate.
Army was deployed in the city on May 3 after demolition of a 100-year-old ''dargah'' at the historic Champaner Gate in the sensitive Fatehpura area by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation led to widespread violence in which six people were killed and over 60 injured.
As the situation went out of control after the "dargah" was razed on May 1, ten companies of State Reserve Police and another eleven companies of central para-military forces were rushed to the city to help the local police maintain law and order. Curfew was also clamped in six police station areas immediately after the violence spread.
According to additional commissioner of police V M Pargi, there was no major incident of violence during the last four days. Besides SRP, eight companies of Rapid Action Force, two companies of Border Security Force and one company of Central Reserve Police Force are now deployed in the sensitive areas of the city, he said.
