Police have arrested five more people in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a girl in Ahmedabad on New Year's eve.

The girl committed suicide after the incident.

The police also identified Manish Jain, an Ajmer-based friend of the prime accused Sajal Jain, as a co-accused who is at large.

So far the police have arrested nine people, including one from Anand district on Thursday, and declared three as absconders.

The five, including two women, have been booked for destroying evidence and harbouring the accused, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner K R Kaushik said on Friday.

The five were identified as the mother and sister of Sugam alias Monty Jaiswal (an accused who is in judicial custody), Ashok Patel, carrying and forwarding agent of Mahek Gutka from Anand district, Pannalal Jaiswal, owner of the Ashok Palace Hotel where the incident occurred and his son-in-law Anand Jaiswal.
