Gujarat Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari on Friday said the new government in the state would accord top priority to unity and brotherhood and make every attempt to ensure no section of the society feels neglected or deprived.
Addressing the newly elected members of the 11th Vidhan Sabha in Ghandhinagar in Gujarat, Bhandari said the government would work for the overall interest of the masses with justice to all and appeasement to none.
Bhandari also hoped that the elected representatives would cooperate in making state a modern, prosperous and safe one.
Assuring that the government would work for welfare of all, Bhandari said, "It will lay a solid foundation for 21st century."
He said people of Gujarat have given their mandate for a stable, progressive and dynamic government that will uphold the democratic values and firmly resolve to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
He said the government is committed to scale new peaks in the direction of carving a modern, prosperous and safe Gujarat with an unprecedented political will, relying fully on the unique identity of the state and the potential of its people.
Later, newly elected assembly Speaker Professor Mangaldas Patel said that he would continue to uphold the highest traditions and value of parliamentary democracy and expected the members to do the same.
Addressing the members after his election as the 13th Speaker, the 60-year-old Prof Patel asked the members to "cooperate and refrain from making any unwanted comments".
Chief Minister Narendra Modi while congratulating Professor Patel said, "I am confident that the Speaker would continue with the bright traditions of parliamentary democracy."
Leader of the Opposition Amarsinh Choudhary, while assuring "full cooperation" expressed hope that the new Speaker would give equal opportunities to the Opposition parties.
Earlier, Protem Speaker Daulatbhai Desai announced Professor Patel's unanimous election as Speaker of the 11th Vidhan Sabha.
The Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ashok Bhatt proposed Professor Patel's name, which was seconded by Amarsinh Choudhary.
