Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil on Thursday said the government would disclose the information on the investigation into journalist J Dey murder case at an appropriate time.
"Government will convey the information at an appropriate time. Now since the investigation is on, it will be wrong to reveal the information at this point. We are not in a haste to disclose the information on the investigation now," Patil told mediapersons in Mumbai.
"Government has taken the murder of senior journalist J Dey very seriously and police have put in their full strength in the investigation," he added.
"Police investigation is going on in the right direction. There is a need to give them some time to carry out the probe... government has directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to finish off the investigation at the earliest."
Asked whether underworld was raising its head again in Mumbai, the minister said, "We will not let the underworld raise its head again."
To a question on deteriorating law and order situation in the state, Patil claimed "crime-related incidents have decreased. However, some serious incidents have occurred and government has taken these issues seriously."
He supported the proposed bill for preventing attacks on journalists. "The attacks on journalists would stop due to the bill," he said when asked about the proposed bill regarding attacks on scribes.
