Google's Republic Day doodle

January 26, 2012 15:54 IST

As India celebrates its 63rd Republic Day on Thursday, images of National Bravery Award winning children riding on the backs of decorated elephants are shown on the Google home page to mark the occasion.

The 'doodle', which appears as a rangoli-like motif in the background, depicts three decorated elephants each carrying two children and a tricoloured umbrella on it's back, a reference to the Bravery Award recipients who took part in the Republic Day parade.

While the umbrellas on the elephants designed as Indian national flag, the letters 'O' of Google appear like the Ashoka wheel.

Clicking on the doodle, it leads to a search result page with news and information about Republic Day.

The Internet search giant never misses a chance to feature doodles on its homepage on important days. The doodles were creatively designed to celebrate important holidays, anniversaries and the lives of famous artists, pioneers and scientists.

This is the second Republic Day doodle to feature on Google India's home page. The previous was appeared in 2010, which showed three fighter aircraft leaving behind delicate trails of saffron, white and green, gracefully decorating the sky with the Tricolour.

It had also come out with a beautiful sketch of the iconic Red Fort to commemorate India's 65th Independence Day on August 15 last year.
