He, thereby, tried to ally apprehensions aired by certain quarters that suspected illegal migrants from Bangladesh might get rehabilitated because of their mere presence in relief camps meant for housing violence-displaced people.
Gogoi said there was no question of rehabilitating illegal migrants. He , however, stated that there was a decline in illegal migration from Bangladesh.
In the backdrop of renewed statewide agitation against illegal migration problem, Gogoi cautioned that people should be conscious and refrain from branding genuine India citizens as Bangladeshis as it would create bad blood in the society.
He said certain political parties were using the issue of illegal migration from Bangladesh to gain political mileage while some others are using it to divert the attention of the people from the development taking place in the State during the incumbent regime.
Gogoi gave away a laptop computereach to all the 26,788 students who have secured more that 60 per cent marks and passed in first division in High School Leaving Certificate and Assam High Madrassa School Leaving Certificate examinations, 2012 conducted by Board of Secondary Education Assam at a glittering function held at the National Games Stadium at Sarusajai in Guwahati.
Gogoi awarded laptops to the students under Anundo Ram Barooah Award Award scheme which is named after Assam's first Indian Civil Service officer and a noted litterateur. The award was set on the roll in the year 2005.
So far, over 1,40,000 laptops have been distributed to such students since the award was instituted in the year 2005. The Assam government claimed that it was first in the country to institute such a unique award to encourage students who have done well in high school leaving examinations.
Giving away the laptop computers, Gogoi in view of the the prevailing sensitive atmosphere in the violence-affected State which is also plagued by myriad problems, Gogoi call up the students to aspire for knowledge and wisdom that make one sensible to the feelings of fellow people and level-headed.
He said showing too much emotions over any issue was not going to solve the problem.
