Four escort constables and three undertrials were found to be under the influence of alcohol after they returned from a court hearing in Goa.

The undertrials were imprisoned at Sada sub jail in the Vasco port town, while escorts were on duty to take them to Margao court on Friday.

Valley D'Costa, Anilkumar Yadav and Vijay Sanskriti -- all undertrials being tried for different offences -- were found to be drunk.

Police have kept names of constables under wraps waiting for the report of alcohol test conducted on them.

Jail Superintendent Bhanudas Pednekar, who noticed that all the three inmates and four constables were behaving unusual, referred them to primary health centre nearby and later to district hospital in Margao town.

"The alcohol test was conducted on all of them. We are awaiting the results," a senior official in the jail administration told PTI.

The initial inquiry has revealed that after attending the court case, all the seven sat for a drink on the way back to the jail.
