General Deepak Kapoor meets US army chief

Army chief General Deepak Kapoor on Thursday met his United States counterpart and other top ranking military officers and discussed various issues including joint training and exercises between the two countries.

General Kapoor, who is on a five day visit to the US, met Joint Chiefs of Staff committee Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, US army chief General George W Casey Junior and Central Command Chief General David H Petraeus in Washington.

During the meeting, the four-star ranked officers also discussed exchanges and military equipment cooperation in Indo-US defence cooperation and contemporary strategic issues like US' Af-Pak Policy and security situation in the South Asian region.

General Kapoor was given a guard of honour at Whipple Field by the US army and later on he also laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. His visit to the US has come at a time when the relations between the two countries are on an upswing and both sides are developing a close strategic partnership.

During his visit, General Kapoor will also be visiting important training institutions and the operational headquarters of the US army.
