Life came to a standstill in Bihar’s Gaya town on Monday with hundreds of traders and businessmen responding positively to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s call of ‘Gaya bandh’ in protest of the killing of a student, allegedly by a Janata Dal-United legislative council member’s son.

Aditya Sachdeva, 20, son of a prominent trader, was allegedly shot dead on late Saturday by Rocky Yadav, son of JD-U MLC Manorma Devi and Bindi Yadav -- who is also facing several criminal cases -- allegedly for taking over his car.

Angry over the gruesome killing of Sachdeva, a large number of traders and businessmen took to the streets to protest the incident and demanded immediate arrest of Rocky, who is absconding.

The protestors and opposition parties also raised the ‘fear of return of jungle raj’.

Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Garima Malik said Bindi Yadav, the father of the accused, and a bodyguard, who was in the car at the time of incident, have been arrested and both are likely to be produced in the local court on Monday.

Malik said the police has started a hunt for Rocky.

Bindi Yadav has a criminal record and is known for his ‘muscle power’ in politics. “Bindi Yadav is a terror for Gaya,” BJP MLA from Gaya Town Prem Kumar said.

Shouting slogans, BJP leaders and workers -- including Prem Kumar, who is also the leader of opposition in Bihar assembly -- took to the streets, demanding arrest of Rocky.

In some localities, BJP workers forced shopkeepers to shut shops, burnt tyres and blocked roads.

“It is a near total bandh in Gaya town. Buses and transport vehicles remained off the road and shops shut,” Prem Kumar said, adding that this incident has vindicated his stand that ‘jungle raj’ has returned to Bihar.

According to police, preliminary investigation suggested that in a fit of rage, Rocky killed Aditya after a heated argument for not giving pass to his new Land Rover.

Police has also recovered Rocky’s car from his parents’ house. Cops said Bindi Yadav was earlier arrested after the recovery of huge cache of cartridges of AK 47 from his possession.
