Chhota Rajan, the gangster arrested in Bali after a two-decade chase, has claimed a threat to his life and sought consular access.

In the letter he has described the circumstances under which he was arrested at Bali Airport.

He says he was arrested on the basis of an Interpol notice against him and added that since the time of his arrest he had not been given consular access. He has reportedly also alleged that he is not being given proper medical care.

Additionally, on Thursday night, Rajan was shifted to another cell in Denpasar police station after fellow inmates misbehaved with him.

Rajan, who has 71 cases of murder, extortion and drug trafficking against him in Mumbai, said this morning that he wanted to return to India and did not want to go to Zimbabwe, as was reported earlier.

A squad of Mumbai Police Crime Branch is now preparing a dossier to prep for its visit to Denpasar to bring back the most-wanted criminal. Indonesian authorities say they are bound by law to deport Rajan within 20 days.

Rajan, against whom the Interpol put out a Red Corner notice in 1995, was arrested on Sunday as a result of a planned operation that began in August after he applied for visa extension in Australia. His details matched with the Interpol notice and Australia then informed India.
