December 25, 2012 19:25 IST

An accused in the paramedical student gangrape case, who had been identified during a test identification parade, was on Tuesday remanded in 12 days judicial custody by a Delhi court while another will undergo TIP on Wednesday.

Mukesh, brother of co-accused Ram Singh who was allegedly driving the bus during the crime, was sent to Tihar Jail till January 6 by Metropolitan Magistrate Pawan Kumar.

While Mukesh had undergone test identification parade (TIP), another of the six accused Akshay Thakur will undergo TIP on Wednesday in Tihar jail.

"The accused (Mukesh) is produced in muffled face. Investigating officer has requested for 14 days judicial custody remand. The investigation in the case is pending.

"Let Mukesh be produced on January 6, on the same date with other accused," the court said.

Mukesh, who has undergone TIP in which the male friend of the victim has already identified him as one of the culprits, was today produced in the court on conclusion of his three-day-long custodial interrogation in the sensational case that had sparked a wave of protests.

Besides Mukesh, other four arrested in the case are Ram Singh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Thakur.

Thakur, who had been arrested from Aurangabad district in Bihar, is presently in judicial custody and will undergo the TIP tomorrow in Tihar jail as he had given his consent in this regard.

However, the proceedings relating to the sixth accused are being undertaken separately before the Juvenile Justice Board as he is a minor.

Both the victims, a 23-year-old paramedical student and her male friend, who had boarded the chartered bus with tinted glass windows from Munirka here to Palam around 9.45 pm on last Sunday night, were assaulted with an iron rod by the men after the two resisted before they were dumped on the road side near Mahipalpur flyover, police said.
