Gang-rape: Plea for FIR against transport min, officials

January 10, 2013 20:31 IST

A transparency activist on Thursday moved a Delhi court seeking registration of a First Information Report against the city transport minister, the transport commissioner and others, alleging that the December 16 gang-rape incident had occurred due to their 'corrupt activities'.

In his application filed in the court of Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, right to information activist Vivek Garg said that the bus was allowed to ply in the city despite it being unfit for the same and having been impounded on many occasions last year.

He sought directions to the crime branch of the Delhi police to register an FIR against transport minister and others for allegedly committing offences of corruption, cheating, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy for unlawfully allowing the bus to run without permit, issuing false fitness certificate to it and issuing driving licence on fake documents.

Besides the transport minister and officials, the complaint also names Dinesh Yadav, the owner of the bus in which the gangrape was committed. The court has kept the matter for hearing on January 14.

The complainant has also questioned as to how the bus driver Ram Singh, who is also the prime accused in the gang-rape case, managed to obtain driving licence despite being a handicapped.
