The body of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi will be buried on Tuesday in a "simple" ceremony at an unknown location in the desert, Libya's interim leaders have announced.

"He will be buried in a simple burial with sheikhs attending the burial. It will be an unknown location in the open desert," The Telegraph quoted a National Transitional Council official, as saying.

"No agreement was reached for his tribe to take him," he said, adding that the "corpse cannot last longer".

On being asked if his son Mutassim would be buried in the same ceremony, the official said, "Yes."

Gaddafi''s body has been on public display in a cold storage container in Misurata alongside Mutassim since they were all killed in Sirte on Thursday.

Meanwhile, another unnamed NTC official has claimed that Gaddafi's eldest son Saif al-Islam is near Libya''s borders with Niger and Algeria and planning to flee the country using a forged passport.
