The US on Thursday announced an increase of Rs 3.25 crore in funding for Fulbright scholarships, which would enable more Indians to travel there for higher education.

Following the hike, the US Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) would be sending 81 Indian Fulbright scholars to the US, an increase of 19 over last year, US Ambassador David C Mulford said in Delhi.

USEFI would also fund additional scholars to visit India, he said, according to a US embassy release.

Mulford said the increase was due to growth in relationship between the US and India and recognition that exchange in higher education had contributed greatly to both countries.
