Four Bodo youth killed in Assam

February 24, 2013 19:13 IST

Four boys from the Bodo community were hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at Gerua village under Baganpara police station in Bagsa district of the Bodoland Territorial Council in Assam on late Saturday night.

According to a police source, the four boys were attacked and killed by some unidentified miscreants at around 10.15 pm on Saturday.

The victims were leaving a neighbour’s residence when they were attacked.

The incident has baffled the locals as the area is dominated by people from the Bodo community. The police are investigating the case but no arrests have been made so far.

The slain youth were identified as Hemanta Boro, Khongkha Boro, Raju Boro and Bijoy Boro.

Meanwhile, the influential All Bodo Students’ Union has demanded that the culprits must be arrested within 24 hours.

A senior ABSU leader stated that the mindless killing of the four youth might be part of a sinister design by some vested group to spark fresh trouble in the communally sensitive BTC area, which is still recovering from the communal riots of July, 2012.

The leader added that the slain Bodo youth were not associated with any organisation.
