Former UP minister Raja Ram Pandey passes away

November 01, 2013 13:13 IST

Former Uttar Pradesh minister and three-time legislator from Pratapgarh, Raja Ram Pandey died in Lucknow following a heart attack. He was 58.

According to official sources, Pandey was taken to a Civil hospital after he complained of uneasiness. He was later referred to the Lari Cardiology centre, where he died during treatment late Thursday night.

A Samajwadi Party MLA from Pratapgarh's Vishwanathganj seat, Pandey was inducted as cabinet minister for Khadi and Village Industries portfolio after the party took reigns of the state in March last year.

He, however, was removed from the state cabinet in April this year following his alleged sexist remarks against woman officials, sparking off national outrage.

The scheduled Cabinet expansion of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav-led ministry was suspended following Pandey’s demise.
