Fog wreaks havoc on flight, train schedules in Delhi

A heavy blanket of fog enveloped the national capital for the second consecutive day on Monday, hitting air and rail services badly.

Ten flights have been cancelled, 20 have been delayed and 23 diverted so far. The general visibility at the airport and the city is less than 50 metres.

The visibility on Runway 28 at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport is 200 metres while at Runway 29 it has plunged down to just 125 metres.

According to the Met department, fog conditions are likely to continue in the coming days, affecting flight and vehicular movement in northern region of the country.

Meanwhile, trains have also been badly hit by the fog. The railways rescheduled five trains including the Bhopal Shatabdi, Amritsar Shatabdi, Seemanchal Express and Taj Express.

Fifty-five trains are running late including Purshottam Express, Poorva Express, Farakka Express and Sealdah and Howraj Rajdhani.

The railways have also cancelled some trains due to the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan. The trains cancelled include the Kota Janshatabdi and Ajmer Shatabdi. The Dehradun-Bandra Express and Mumbai Janata Express will not run for the next seven days.

Northern Railway announced its helpline numbers, which people could call to find out information on train scehdules. For trains from New Delhi railway station, the number is 011-237440452, for Old Delhi it is 011-23967322, and for Nizamuddin Railway Station it is 011-24355964.
