Eleven convicted in fodder scam case

Eleven persons including five government officials were on Wednesday sentenced to six years imprisonment by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in connection with a fodder scam case.

CBI court Judge Anil Kumar Choudhury also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on each of them in the case pertaining to the fraudulant withdrawal of Rs 20 lakh from Hazaribag treasury of undivided Bihar between 1992-93.

However, he acquitted another accused Girish Kumar Sinha, a supervisor posted at Patna. The then regional director of animal husbandry department, Hazaribag, Kashinath Singh who was convicted in 2004 in connection with a disproportionate assets case, was among the convicted government officals on Wednesday.

Other convicted officials are accounts and budget officer of the directorate, Braj Bhusan Prasad, travelling vetrinary officer Dr K K Sahay and accountants of the directorate Kedarnath Ram and Gopa Ram. The suppliers who are convicted are Tripurari Mohan Prasad, Anil Kumar Sinha, S K Singh, Arun Kumar Sinha and a couple Pramod Jaiswal and Manju Bala.

The Hazaribag treasury was one of the treasuries involved in the fodder scam totalling Rs 950 crore that was unearthed in 1996.
