5 tribal militants arrested by security forces in Assam

In a joint operation conducted by Army and Assam police, one National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) worker was apprehended in Shimlabagan village in Chirang Reserve Forest area of Chirang district on Monday.

About 12.5 kg TNT explosives was recovered from the apprehended person identified as Milan Basumatary alias Khununga from Sulekhaguri village.

A defence source informed that in another joint operation, Indian Army troops and police apprehended two hardcore cadres of the newly-formed United People’s Liberation Army and two linkmen on Sunday from East Karbi Anglong.

Based on an intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by Army and the Police at Dilai in East Karbi Anglong. After search of the suspected village by security forces, UPLA cadres and linkmen were apprehended. The apprehended cadres were identified as Ronard Momin and Singsang Nehang.

Two other linkmen of the outfit were also apprehended and they were identified as Nokjir Timung and Rajkumar Rajbongsh. One 7.65 pistol along with some ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from the individuals.
